Oak Grove to put alcohol sales on the October ballot

OAK GROVE, La. (KNOE) - Oak Grove is moving forward with bringing alcohol sales to the town.

The town council voted on Tuesday, March 12, to put the issue of alcohol sales to a public vote. They say residents should be able to vote on the ballot measure in October.

Tuesday's town council vote comes after a petition with more than 300 signatures was submitted to Mayor Adam Holland last week. The mayor says there's been a lot of back and forth on the issue, but that's a good thing.

The petition comes from a group called Texas Petition Strategies, who filed on behalf of Walmart. They got signatures of the necessary 25% of voters needed to push it forward.

Holland plans to introduce an ordinance limiting alcohol sales to restaurants on Main Street. He also plans to keep the Fiske Theater dry.
