OPSO: Traffic stop turns up 120 grams of meth, 1400 Xanax

Authorities have arrested a man accused of having a large number of illicit drugs.

According to arrest records, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office pulled over John E McIntyre on Jan 12, 2020, for a traffic violation on Cypress Street. Deputies say he cross the center line on Drago Street and then failed to signal a lane change.

After being pulled over, deputies say they spotted a digital scale on the center console. McIntyre initially refused to allow a search of his vehicle, but a K-9 officer was brought in and she alerted to the odor of narcotics on the vehicle, according to the report.

Authorities say a search of McIntyre's vehicle revealed 120 grams of meth and 1400 units of Xanax, along with a small assortment of other pills and marijuana. Deputies say McIntyre also had a 9mm handgun in the vehicle.

McIntyre was arrested on multiple drug charges and carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics.

He was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center.
