Multi-million dollar grant awarded to Louisiana to combat human trafficking

BATON ROUGE, La. (ABC, WBRZ) - Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards announced Wednesday a multi-million- dollar federal grant to prevent human trafficking in Louisiana.

Governor Edwards said that he and his wife are passionate about the issue of preventing human trafficking and are committed to ending this modern-day slavery.

Governor Edwards said the State of Louisiana received a grant from the federal justice department of 1.2 million dollars to help victims of the crime and address human trafficking among juveniles.

Edwards also announced they are launching an initiative called the "Louisiana Child Trafficking Collaborative" to improve outcomes for children and young victims of sex and labor trafficking.
