Morehouse Parish, Richland Parish officials declare State of Emergency

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Morehouse Parish and Richland Parish are now under States of Emergency.

Morehouse Parish Police Jury President Terry Matthews has declared a State of Emergency for Morehouse Parish ahead of potential severe weather. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Barry is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane by late Friday.>

Sandbags are available during regular business hours (8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday to Friday) for parish residents. Limit 25 per household.

Location: Morehouse Highway Department at 3230 New Monroe Rd, Bastrop, LA

Elliot Colvin, Parish President of Richland Parish, also declared a State of Emergency for that parish. This directs all emergency operations plans be activated and that the Richland Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness be designated as the point of contact.

The declaration was issued on July 11, 2019, at 10:12 a.m. and effective immediately.
