MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Dozens lined up on Tuesday to receive what they call their Thanksgiving blessing. "It's good that they're giving. They're giving to the community for the free and that's good," one person said.
And it's all thanks to Miss TJ Stevenson. She said she fed more than 80 people Tuesday right outside of her home on Adams Street in Monroe and it's all out of her own pocket.
"Tonya had already come to me and she says she'll talk to Mr. Jackson across the street,” said Stevenson. “And she said let's get together and do something for Thanksgiving. And I said yea well, we have food now. We need to feed people now. Tomorrow is not promised."
She set tables on her porch filled with mashed potatoes, green beans, turkey, and gumbo.
The food looked fantastic, but she says it was but the smiling faces looked even better.
"It's a blessing because you know God works in mysterious ways and a lot of us don't have it like everybody else. It's good that people are coming from their heart to show us that 'hey we do love y'all,'" said Frankie Sanders, an Adams Street resident.
Stevenson says this isn't just for special occasions. It's something she plans to do every month.
"People helping people that's what it's all about. Giving back. Paying it forward."
She hopes that if she can help someone today, hopefully, they can help someone tomorrow. If you would like to donate or help out, you can contact TJ Stevenson at (318) 503-0374 or you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
