Monroe offering "Amnesty Day" for residents with active warrants
Monroe residents can sign up to potentially get an arrest warrant forgiven.
Division A of the Monroe City Court is offering "Amnesty Day" Friday, December 13th.
Residents can call the Clerk of Court's office to see if they're eligible. Violent crimes are not eligible, but warrants for things like traffic violations or missed court dates could be forgiven.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo said he wanted to remind people that even if they aren't eligible, they won't get in trouble for asking.
"I know there are some concerns from folks who have warrants whether to come to court or not to come to court for fear they'll be arrested, but they will not be arrested," he said.
Residents have through Tuesday, Dec. 10, to sign up for the offer. The court will not be accepting walk-ins.
