Louisiana State Police says a Monroe man was killed after a car he was driving went off the side of the road, hit two trees, and burst into flames.

Around 10:45 p.m. Friday night, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-car crash on LA 838 in Ouachita Parish.

They say their investigation showed a 2002 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 33-year-old Gary Tyler of Monroe, was traveling west on LA 838 around a slight curve. Police say the car traveled off the right side of the road and hit a large tree stump. Then, after hitting the stump, the car rolled over, hit a large tree, and burst into flames.

Tyler, who Police say was wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

In 2018, Troop F has investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 21 deaths.
