Monroe arson investigation leads to drug bust including 29 grams of meth, 144 ecstasy tabs
A Monroe man has been arrested on six felony charges after an arson investigation leads authorities to a box of controlled drugs.
According to the Monroe Fire Department, the fire happened at a mobile home at 5210 Desiard Street just before noon on Tuesday, May 21.
An arrest report filed by the Monroe Police Department reported that the suspect set a bed on fire because the victim, who lives in the home, moved his box of drugs. Gilbert was allegedly seen leaving the residence on foot after the fire started.
Another arrest report, this one filed by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, puts Gilbert at the home of the victim's friend outside the city. There, they say, Gilbert tried to force his way into the home. When the victim met him at the door, he pulled her outside and put his hands around her neck.
Investigators say the victim later called authorities and alerted them that she and Gilbert were headed back to the scene of the arson to get something. When Gilbert got back to the home, he allegedly found the box of drugs and put it in the victim's vehicle.
Monroe PD then arrived at the home and made contact with the victim and Gilbert. Investigators say they located the box, which contained 29 grams of meth, 144 ecstasy tabs, 68 Xanax bars, and a handful of other pills.
In all, Gilbert is charged with Simple Arson, Domestic Abuse Battery (Strangulation), Home Invasion and 3 possession with intent charges.
