Man dead after officer-involved shooting in Rapides Parish

PINEVILLE, La. (LSP) - According to Louisiana State Police, one man is dead after a Saturday afternoon officer-involved shooting.

Around noon Saturday, LSP says troopers responded to an officer-involved shooting on Anderson Street at Olive Street in Pineville.

Their preliminary investigation revealed that a Ball police officer stopped a white Chevrolet Impala, driven by 32-year-old Michael Neal of Byran, Miss., on US Hwy-165 in Ball, for a traffic violation.

After the officer made contact with Neal, a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended on Anderson Street in Pineville, where Neal was shot. He was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center where he later died from his injuries.

The officer was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center where he remains in stable condition.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
