WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Law enforcement officers have arrested two people in connection with an attempted murder at a local business in West Monroe. The attempted murder was the result of a robbery set up on Snapchat, according to arrest records.
Authorities arrested 19-year-old London Lewayne Shepherd on a charge of attempted second-degree murder on Tuesday. 17-year-old Trisha Lynn Maum was booked into jail on Wednesday for the same crime.
Officials say their investigation began when they responded to a shooting at Spin City on Stella Street in West Monroe around 9:28 p.m. Tuesday night. Officers say they found blood in the parking lot and then received a call that the victim was at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
Police learned that the victim went to the parking lot to make a drug deal with someone he had been speaking with over Snapchat, a social media app. They say Shepherd entered the victim's vehicle, pulled out a gun, and demanded he hand over the drugs and cash. The victim refused the demand and was shot multiple times in the torso and arm. Shepherd left the scene and the victim managed to drive himself to the hospital after the shooting.
Detectives say they were able to locate Shepherd in a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, at which point Shepherd fled on foot. They say a Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 located the suspect, and they arrested him without incident.
Officials say the victim was transported to LSU Shreveport. Still no word on his condition.
Police believe that Trisha Maum used Snapchat to set up this robbery and others around Ouachita Parish.
