UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities say they have arrested a man after a deadly crash in Union Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, it happened on Sept. 9th just before 9:20 PM on LA Highway 2 just west of Farmerville. Police say a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line and hit a 1991 Ford F-150 head-on.

Police say the Silverado was driven by 51-year-old Tracy Fields of Farmerville, who is believed to have been impaired at the time of the crash. The driver of the F-150, 60-year-old Gregory Andrews of Bernice, was killed in the crash. Fields was not hurt. Both men were wearing seatbelts.

Fields was charged with vehicular homicide and booked into the Union Parish Detention Center.

State Police add:

"Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Whether impaired through alcohol or drugs, the consequences can be the same. In 2018, Troop F has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 29 deaths."
