Madison Parish teen charged with negligent homicide in friend's shooting death

MADISON PARISH, La. (KNOE) - A Tallulah teenager has been charged with a crime after a shooting that took the life of his friend.

According to the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Kevin Sheppard was arrested around 5 a.m. on July 24, 2019, for the shooting death of Fred Singleton Jr.

Authorities say the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m Tuesday night on Henderson Street.

It's believed that the two friends were playing around when one pointed a gun at the other and pulled the trigger, not knowing the gun was loaded.

Singleton was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sheppard is being charged with negligent homicide.
