COLUMBIA, La. (KNOE) - February marks the start of American Heart Month. The month is to bring awareness to heart disease, complications and those who survived through their health battles. Artist M. Douglas Walton says he had open-heart surgery a year ago. Through his journey, he has painted over a hundred pieces centered around the human heart.
After his open-heart surgery, Walton says his nurse told him that he had to do an exhibition on his journey. A year later, Walton is bringing that exhibition to fruition with an art display in Columbia.
Walton says this exhibit will show a collection of art based on all aspects of the human heart.
The exhibit will open Friday, February 7 at 5 p.m. in the Schepis Museum in Columbia, Louisiana.
There will also be a lecture Tuesday, February 11, where Walton will talk about all the paintings displayed at the exhibit.
Walton says the exhibit will be open for two months and will conclude March 28.
