RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - The Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office says a man charged with killing a couple in 2017 has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.

According to authorities, the murders happened on the evening of August 14, 2017 at 6235 LA 33 North.

The couple was shot to death by John A. Nichols - a man they accused of making inappropriate comments to their underaged daughter.

When authorities arrived on the scene, deputies say they found Anthony Denicola and Rachel Denicola, both shot multiple times in the head. Rachel Denicola was pronounced dead at the scene. Anthony Denicola was transported to North Louisiana Medical Center, where he died.

Investigators say deputies were called to the home by Nichols, the very same man they say confessed to killing the victims shortly after the shootings.

They say Nichols surrendered at the scene and told his story to investigators, waiving his right to counsel.

Investigators say Nichols told them he was trying to have the family evicted and he learned that the couple had accused him of making an inappropriate comment to their daughter previously. Investigators believed this is what sparked the killings.

Investigators say two children were home at the time of the murders.

Sentencing is set for October 2019.
