RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - The community is honoring a group of people who helped build Lincoln Parish with the 13th Annual Senior Expo.
The Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office says their goal is for people of all ages to get active and engaged with the community, so they're reaching out to seniors and hoping to spread some positivity.
The Sheriff's Office says this is a way to get seniors out of the house, entertain them, and make them feel appreciated.
The day featured live music and door prizes.
Not only was it fun, but it was also informational. Doctors shared important information about dementia and Parkinson’s.
Organizers say with such a rich history in the community, it's important to pay it back for everything the Lincoln Parish seniors have done.
"It’s just a way of honoring those who have given so much to our community,” explains Chief Deputy Stephen Williams. “A lot of them are old war vets, World War II, Korean, and Vietnam. Professors, lawyers, or doctors. We have a great cross-section of the community."
Organizers say the event gets bigger and better every year, and they're already looking forward to 2020.
