2020 is a leap year and the Black Bayou Lake Wildlife Refuge decided to celebrate by acknowledging animals that leap.

Nova Clarke from the Black Bayou Lake Wildlife Refuge says the festivities will include a frog-calling contest and cricket eating contest with prizes sponsored by Armstrong Cricket Farms.

Clarke adds there will also be chocolate-covered crickets for visitors to try. The frog calling contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors can park by the visitor’s center or over by the boat ramp. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
