A Mississippi woman has been awarded more than $2 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit against an OB-GYN.

The Columbus Dispatch reports a jury awarded Talanda Blevins the funds Friday after she sued Dr. James Holzhauer for negligence in 2016.

Blevins' attorney argued Holzhauer induced labor before the child's head was in the proper position, waited too long to perform a cesarean section, didn't perform the hysterectomy when he should have and left Blevins' bedside multiple times to go home.

Court records show Blevins' uterus ruptured while she was giving birth and Holzhauer performed four surgeries. Blevins argued another physician had to repair damage caused during the earlier surgeries.

Holzhauer says he acted in the patient's best interest and maintains he followed appropriate standards for care.
