A new study shows one of the most dangerous roads in the country is right here in the Arklamiss. It's interstate 20, and drivers who we talked to say they're not surprised.

"People seem to not obey signs and there are trucks going down the road side by side which is against the law really," Said Harold Jenkins, a driver who has driven on I-20 for the last 40 years.

He said if drivers would just follow the law than it would make a big difference.

A new study from the finance company Value Penguin finds that the interstate is the eighth most dangerous road in the country. The road has seen 662 fatalities in the last four years, and 27 of those occurred between Madison Parish and the Shreveport area.

"It's not that bad in the morning but around lunchtime there's a lot of wrecks," Said David Thornton who works at a rest area along the highway. He says he see's accidents that are caused by all types of things.

"There's nothing barricading the road, so deer come running out," He said.

The study also shows that the highway is the fifth "darkest" interstate in the nation. 40% of the accidents occur at night when people can't see as well, but Jenkins says he has seen more street lights installed.

"I've been driving through here to Texas for the last forty years and the lighting was very poor but it's getting better," He said.

He says many of the problems would be fixed if people would just slow down.
