"The Hotel Monroe" by Hilton coming to Monroe
On Tuesday, Michael and Christie Echols announced big news for downtown Monroe. The couple will be opening a new boutique hotel called "The Hotel Monroe." It will be located at 108 and 120 Walnut Street. Michael Echols said it is all apart of revitalizing downtown.
"We think it's a big deal and something that's really going to propel the community forward," Echols said. He said the project is projected to come with a price tag of 15 to 20 million dollars, but it does not worry him too much.
"We're fortunate that the National Park service offers historic state and historic federal credits, which will help with some of those dollars," Echols said.
The couple is partnering with Tapestry Collection by Hilton. This collection is exclusively for historic and antique buildings. The buildings used to serve as the Southern Hardware and Poolside Shop. They were purchased by Echols in 2013 and will consist of 70,000 square foot of restored and newly built facility, including 69 rooms, a ballroom, and a rooftop bar. The hotel will also have a full-service restaurant.
The hotel will be operated by Cornerstone Hospitality Management of Williamsburg, Virginia. The hotel builder will be Lincoln Builders of Ruston and architect will be CDFL of Jackson, Mississippi.
The hotel is set to open Fall of 2019.
