We live in an age when we use our eyes more than ever. From staring at our computer screens at work, to typing in a small keyboard in our cellphones or tablets, to watching television for long periods of time, everything leads to eye fatigue and an increased in age-related eye problems.

Here are the Top 5 Tips to help you Improve Your Eyesight:

1. Follow a vision-ary diet.

Our eyes require multiple nutrients to function optimally. Consuming foods rich on vitamins A, C, and E, and rich minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Antioxidants help protect your eyes from sun damage. Some examples are: green vegetables, carrots, egg yolks, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and garlic.

2. Go Fish.

A fatty acid found in cold-water fish, called DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid that is a primary structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, and retina. It can be found in salmon, sardines, mackerel, and cod, and can provide structural support to cell membranes to boost eye health.

3. Exercise Your Eyes.

Particularly early in the morning, or when your eyes are fatigued. Try rolling your eyes, first up and down, and then in a circular pattern 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Another helpful exercise is focusing on a pen at arm's length, and slowly bringing it close until it's about 6 inches from your nose, then move it back.

4. Quit Smoking.

Nicotine and other chemicals found in cigarettes have been linked to early development of cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. If you have tried to stop smoking before and started smoking again, keep trying. Your eyes will thank you for it.

5. Give Your Eyes a Break.

Getting enough sleep is essential for eye health. It allows your eyes to fully rest, repair, and recover. If you work with computers, giving your eyes a break once an hour can have an amazing positive impact. If your eyes are feeling overly tired, try laying down and placing cucumber slices over your eyelids.
