Hall of Fame Induction Banquet July 13th

GRAMBLING, La (KNOE) - The Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is being held on July 13th on the campus of Grambling State University. Each year, the group selects others to join their ranks. This is the eleventh induction as the first one was held in Monroe.

The Grambling Legends, Inc. was founded by Grambling and professional greats, Doug Williams and James "Shack" Harris for the purpose of remembering those high achieving student-athletes, and to support the Eddie Robinson Museum as well as the university. To date, over 130 persons have been inducted in the categories of contributor and athletes (baseball, basketball, football, track and field). Previously inducted members from Monroe include the Howell brothers, Sammy White, Charles Smith, James "Shack" Harris and Matthew Reed.

The members have come from all over the country and will increase by 7 more. Wendell Henderson (baseball-Chicago Cubs), Samuel Holden (football-New Orleans Saints), Elfrid Payton (football, CFL Hall of Famer), Terrace Sykes (Basketball -Washington Bullets/Wizards), Michael Williams (Football-GFL Grey Cup champion), Tom Williams (football and track coach-posthumously ) and Miechelle Willis (Shot Put Champion and former Deputy AD Ohio State University)

We want to provide the population of the station with historical information about the achievements of the organization and its members and to invite them to attend and meet these individuals.

History: Founded by James "Shack" Harris and Doug Williams in honor of four preeminent individuals at the University; President Jones, Coach Robinson, Collie J. Nicholson and Coach Fred Hobdy.

We have previously inducted over 130 members into the Grambling Legends Inc. Hall of Fame. This time there will be 7 inducted.

The seven members who will be inducted into the hall of fame include,

Wendell "Brick" Henderson (SWAC honors, drafted by the Chicago Cubs);

Samuel "Sam" Holden (All American NAIA, played for the Saints and Oilers)

Elfrid "Alley Cat" Payton (Played for 7 Canadian teams, Canadian Football Hall of Famer);

Terrace "Big Dunk" Sykes (three-time All-SWAC, drafted by Washington Bullets);

Michael Williams (GSU and Bayou Classic MVP);

Former track and field and football coach, Thomas "Tom" Williams will be inducted posthumously;

Miechelle Willis (SWAC Track and Field Shot Put Champion, retired Deputy Director of Athletics at Ohio State University).
