MONROE, La. (KNOE) - This year is the 40th anniversary of the movie Grease, and supervisors at Jack Hayes Elementary took note. Thursday, they had a teacher rally, where they sang songs re-worked to mean something special for teachers.
They also had training videos to get the teachers ready for the first day of school on Monday. Teachers have been in their classrooms preparing all week, but now they’re ready to bring their enthusiasm to the kids.
28-year teaching veteran Tracie Bryant says she doesn’t know of another parish that would do something so special. "How many parishes can you work at that the supervisors will put on a Grease skit for you? I mean, I think that says a lot. We're excited, our supervisors are excited, the teachers and everyone at our school are excited.”
Principal Holly Smiley says their top priority is safety, but it’s important to have a little fun too. “I think the most important thing is safety for the school year, but it's important to remember that morale and motivation are also very important. We want the families to know that we work very hard to motivate the children and teachers and keep them safe," she said.
School starts Monday with a half-day and the first full day for Ouachita Parish is on Wednesday, August 15th.
