Girl Scouts talking about the importance of STEM

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Girls joining Girl Scouts today are looking for fun and friendship as always, but increasingly they are seeking more and more leadership and life skills. Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf is delivering just that.

With focuses in STEM, Entrepreneurship, Outdoor Adventure, and Life Skills, Girl Scout programming is giving girls the chance to learn marketable skills as well as what it takes to be a female leader in today’s world. Activities like building, coding and programming robots teach girls more than just how to create something from nothing, according to Girl Scout Cadette, 11-year-old Callie Malley.

“We learn how to interact with different people and how to work together to build something,” she said. “And learning to code and program is good because I could maybe help someone with computer problems, or maybe even use it in a job one day.”

Girl Scouts has troops forming right now and are always looking for more volunteers to help enrich the experience for both girl and adult members.
