GSU student hit by truck while skateboarding

GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE) - A Grambling State University student is in critical condition after a crash, according to police. It happened on Jan. 23, 2020, around 6:55 p.m.

Grambling police say 24-year-old Marcell C. Lewis Jr., of Little Rock, was skateboarding in the 7100 block of US Hwy 80 when he was hit by a truck.

Police say he was transported to a Ruston hospital where he was stabilized. He was then transported to a hospital in Shreveport for further medical care. He is listed in critical condition.

Police say investigators are still working to piece together the chain of events. At this time, police say evidence indicates that Lewis was near the centerline of the roadway when he was hit. It was just after dark. The impact was such that heavy damage was caused to part of the truck.

The driver of the truck has not been charged at this time.
