MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Former Monroe city councilman Michael Echols has taken to Facebook to address politics in the city.

Echols formerly served in district one and is now a state representative. Doug Harvey was elected Friday for the district one seat after running unopposed.
Harvey is scheduled to begin his term this summer.
Echols is accusing Mayor Jamie Mayo and other council members of conspiring to not appoint Harvey in the interim time period. Echols said that he believes they are working to appoint another individual with counseling and accounting experience to fill the position.
"The politics that are being played at city hall by this councilwoman chair and her colleagues is absolutely disgusting," Echols said.
Harvey said he currently manages a company budget and wants to be included in the city budget process among other affairs.
"So this is one of those things where it's obviously disappointing, but it's not something that's within our control," Harvey said. I'm gonna continue to support the community whether I hold that title at this stage or not."
Mayo has denied the accusations, saying he does not have a say in the matter because of his mayoral status.
"I do not have a vote on the council, nor have I made a recommendation," Mayo said.
KNOE has reached out to council chair Juanita Woods for comment. We have not heard back at the time this article was written.
