An investigation into a burglary and shooting is underway in Bastrop.

Police say it happened around 3 am Wednesday morning on Williams Drive. They say someone broke into the home while no one was there. According to police, the homeowner returned while the burglar was inside and the burglar shot at the homeowner.

No one was hurt, but police say the burglar escaped before they arrived. Police say he was wearing a red and blue hoodie but have no other information at this time.

Bastrop Police Chief, Allen Campbell, says they need community members to help them with any information they have.

"Let's stop the mentality of, we don't want to be involved." Campbell says, "Pick up the phone, call the police, and tell us what you see."

Campbell says they don't have enough men out on patrol, which is why it is important for people to tell them what they know.

They're currently investigating a homicide, a shooting, sexual assault allegations of a disabled child, and now an armed burglary.

"Do not lose faith in my police department or me." Campbell says, "we are here, we are processing every scene, and we're dealing with them accordingly, but we need the community's help."

Chief Campbell says people can go to the police station or call the police department with information on any of the investigations, and they can do it all anonymously.
