DOWNSVILLE, La. (KNOE) - A 19-year-old Downsville teen accused of raping a 17-year-old female is protecting his innocence.

Kenneth Thurston is charged with third-degree rape.
Kenneth Thurston is charged with third-degree rape. Thurston says he never confessed to the accusation.

Last week, Kenneth Thurston was arrested and charged with third-degree rape. On Thursday, KNOE received a statement from Journalist Johnny Gunter, who works alongside the Union Parish Sheriff's Office.

Gunter's statement says "Investigators said Thurston initially denied the accusations, but when presented with evidence that the accusations were true, he admitted that there was forced sex involved."

Thurston said he never committed nor confessed to doing anything. KNOE was told that the evidence Thurston was shown was a string of text messages between himself and the victim.

"I want everybody to know that I am not lying and I'm just looking for someone's trust again," Thurston said.

He said he suffers from dyslexia. Thurston said because of the accusation he lost the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with his family. He says also lost his job and the chance to graduate.

"I'm basically getting in trouble for a lie," Thurston said.

He is currently out on bond.
