MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On Monday, a Monroe business announced its first batch of crawfish. Riverside Coney Island took the big news to Facebook and crawdad lovers were more than excited.

Tom Hardy is the owner of Riverside. Hardy said the crawfish were shipped in from Houma. He said the crawfish have a beautiful color and size for a delicious season.

"The weather is right and they are cropping. I'm looking for a great season," Hardy said.

Hardy said the restaurant got in more than 1,200 pounds of crawfish.

The crawfish start at $6.50 per pound. Hardy said customers can expect another shipment next week.

According to the LSU Agriculture Center, Louisiana has 250,000 acres of crawfish farms producing an estimated $175 million worth of crawfish annually.
