Columbia Lock and Dam closed for emergency repairs | Boat ramps closed

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District says that the Columbia Lock and Dam will be closed to navigation for the time being. They say emergency repairs need to be made and the lock and dam won't be reopened until those repairs are made. This means no commercial vessels can pass through the area.

Also, water levels have been lowered 3 feet, they say, to ease the pressure on the lock structure. Water levels will remain this way until the repairs are made. The Corps of Engineers assures everyone that the lock and dam is stable and they don't expect it to sustain any more damage.

Since water levels have been lowered, they say the seven boat ramps they operate are closed. Those include Riverton, Prairion, Bawcomville, Moon Lake, Sterlington, Finch Bayou, and Felsenthal South. They also closed the Riverton swim beach.

The Forsythe Point boat ramp has also been closed. At the D'Arbonne National Wildlife Refuge, the Holland's Bluff, Lake Drain, and Saline Creek boat ramps have been closed.

Officials ask that you not attempt to circumvent these closures. Doing so could put your safety at risk or damage your watercraft.
