WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - One Colorado man was greeted by other runners at the finish line after finishing the Twin City Marathon in 13 hours.

Joe D’Angelo is 86 years old and started the race early at 5:30 Sunday morning. D’Angelo finished a little after 6 p.m.

He says he’s run more than 200 marathons and ultra-marathons in his life. Louisiana is now the 47th state he's completed a marathon in.

D'angelo says he was unable to train for this marathon because of the flu, but he decided to follow through and “tough it out” anyway. He credits a friend's quote for getting him to the finish line.

"Pain is only temporary. Not finishing is forever. So, you just gotta hang tough," D’Angelo says. "Stick to it. Quitters never win. Winners never quit."

D'angelo says he plans on knocking out the last three states on his list: Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee. He says he’ll make sure to train for those.
