WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE)- WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE)- A beautiful sunrise under the soft sounds of acoustic music is how hundreds of people in Monroe started their Easter Sunday.

People from 5 different churches gathered in Kiroli Park to celebrate one of the most important holidays in the Christian faith.

“Christianity is larger than any single church building and so it is important that we as Christians come together,” said Jon Tellifero.

He organized the event and says Easter is the keystone of the Christian faith.

“The reason we believe in forgiveness, the reason we believe in second chances, the reason we believe that life will go on and on is because one God came and dwelt among us in the form of Jesus Christ,” said Telliforo.

Members of all ages had the chance to pray and worship together.

Tellifero said an early church service is a tradition that goes back centuries.

“The 1st-century church gathered in the day of his resurrection at the break of dawn to welcome the resurrection and remember that Jesus has risen,” said Telliforo.

For Resurrection Church member Renee Butler, it is important to give thanks for a second chance Easter represents.

“I just wanted to start the day from the sunrise to the sunset with Jesus,’ said Butler.

After service people stayed for treats and left to attend regularly-scheduled church services.
