Records dated Jan. 21., detail a ruling in the case against Edward Harris.

Harris was previously convicted of a felony. While Louisiana law allows convicted felons to run for office, it must be five years after completion of a sentence. For Harris, that five year period will not end until January of 2021.

thus, it was determined that he should be removed from the ballot.

Harris was challenging incumbent mayor Gerald Brown. Brown was the only other candidate in the race.

Harris declined an on-camera interview but told KNOE that he had already reached out and congratulated Brown.
