Man suffers serious burns in Hwy 165 accident

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Update: 12:15 p.m. - A man suffered serious burns after a morning accident on Highway 165 in Ouachita Parish Wednesday. (Aug. 9th, 2017)

According to law enforcement, the accident happened in the area around Finks Hideaway Rd. and Horseshoe Lake Rd./Hwy. 553 at about 9:30 a.m.

They say an 18-wheeler carrying corn hit a car, then swerved into a light pole, bursting into flames.

The weather made matters worse, preventing an attempt to airlift the burn victim to the hospital. Authorities say he was taken to St. Francis Medical Center by ambulance. His condition is unclear at this time. As of now, no other serious injuries have been reported.

According to Google Maps, traffic is still moving slowly in the area of Hwy. 165 between Finks Hideaway Rd. and Horseshoe Lake Rd./Hwy. 553 and along Finks Hideaway Rd. itself, as traffic is diverted through the area. Old Sterlington Rd. is also being used as a detour for now.

Update: 11:15 a.m. - It's still slow going in both directions along Hwy 165 from Finks Hideaway Rd. to Horseshoe Lake Rd./553.

Update: 10:45 a.m. - Traffic is being diverted from Highway 165 North at Finks Hideaway Rd. and through Old Sterlington Rd. around North Monroe Medical Center.

The southbound side of Hwy. 165 has been reduced to one lane of travel in the affected area.

Emergency crews are still on the scene.
