The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will begin its initial phases by providing cancer education, prevention and screening services to 12 parishes in Northeast Louisiana.

Renea Duffin, vice president of cancer support and outreach, says they're honored to receive a three-year grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation to provide the programs to the Delta region. She believes hearing the community's concerns on cancer will bring long-term partnerships with the community.

“Were here to do a series of listening sessions where we hear from the community and understand the unique needs of the Delta region and understand how the community is served and how we can partner within this community to better serve the citizens of the Delta region.”

Thursday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mary Bird Perkins and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation representatives will be at VCOM – Louisiana Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine to provide an overview of the grant and how it will benefit early detection.
