MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities say they've arrested a Bastrop man who is accused of setting a woman’s car on fire.

According to the state fire marshal's office, the fire happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 13, in the 800 block of Gray Avenue.

Investigators believe the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Brandon White, got into an argument with the vehicle's owner over property he believed she had stolen from him. They believe White set the car on fire after the argument. The car was near an occupied home. At least five people were inside at the time of the fire. They were able to escape unharmed. The home suffered minimal smoke exposure

On May 18, officials say, a warrant was obtained for White’s arrest and state fire marshal deputies began efforts to find him. Thanks to a tip from the public, White was found. However, when deputies attempted to interact with him, White armed himself with a knife and fled on foot. During the pursuit, White discarded the knife and surrendered without incident.

White was booked into the Morehouse Parish Jail on one count of aggravated arson.
