Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, is working to ensure we support talent development in Louisiana. In order to do that, we have to stop the disinvestment in higher education. Education is an investment. Education is foundational for our democracy and transformational for families. It is community building at its best. Education is a passport out of poverty. More people need access to education because, in America, education and opportunity have become two sides of the same coin. Our economy is changing rapidly and the divide between those who have an education beyond high school and those who do not is growing.
The Georgetown Center reported on job creation since the recession. 11.6 million jobs created in America. 11.5 million of those went to people with a credential beyond high school. The numbers speak for themselves - we must ensure more people have access to
education and we must erase equity gaps.
