Many small businesses are supported across the country and including locally here in Monroe.

With the holidays here and the year wrapping up, many small businesses are recognized yearly with awards they may or may not have applied for.

Joann Deal, with the BBB, joins us in the studio to discuss emails; businesses should be aware of when it comes to supporting small businesses.

Deal says if your business has received an email from "2019 Best of Monroe Awards - Business Services," she urges you to delete it.

Do not click any links from the email that requires you to fill out the information that can lead to scammers to steal your business information.

To avoid this, Deal recommends that you double-check to see what awards your businesses applied for.

Ask specific questions, know the nomination process and check for payment requirements.
