West Monroe, La. (KNOE) - The Sports Car Club of America held its Autocross competition in West Monroe.
Car enthusiasts from all over Louisiana compete against the clock, one car at a time. The goal is to complete a driving course as fast as possible without hitting any cones or leaving the track.
Driver times are calculated electronically down to the millisecond.
“It’s one way for people to fulfill their need for speed without getting on the highway,” says Autocross Chief of Safety and participant John Lieberman.
Driver Stephen Poindexter says racing is about more than just the car. “This is more about the driver. You know a lot of speed up, slow down things like that.”
Participants do not have to be professional drivers to enter an Autocross event. Most cars are eligible to compete.
Drivers interested in signing up can visit the SCCA’s Red River Region’s Facebook Page.
