Arkansas votes to increase minimum wage to $11 per hour

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Voters in Arkansas approved a measure that will increase the state's minimum wage over a span of three years.

Roughly two-thirds of Arkansans voted 'Yes' to Arkansas Issue 5, the Minimum Wage Increase Initiative.

Its passage will result in three minimum wage increases, which will go into effect in 2019, 2020, and 2021:

January 1, 2019: $9.25 per hour
January 1, 2020: $10.00 per hour
January 1, 2021: $11.00 per hour

The current minimum wage in Arkansas is $8.50 an hour.

The minimum wage in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi is currently $7.25 per hour. The state Senate in Louisiana previously voted down a bill that would have increased the state's minimum wage to $8 in 2019 and then $8.50 in 2020.
