OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - An Arkansas man is accused of raping a child in Ouachita Parish.

According to an arrest warrant application, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating allegations against 23-year-old Christopher James Edwards on April 1, 2019.

They say they were called to a home on G.B. Cooley Road in the West Monroe area by the alleged victim's mother. She told deputies that her pre-teen child reported sexual abuse at the hands of the suspect.

According to the document, the family, which consists of the mother, the child, and the mother's boyfriend, used to live in Arkansas until recently. They moved to Ouachita Parish after becoming homeless. Edwards, a family friend who also lived with them, moved to Ouachita Parish as well.

The document indicates that the family moved into a small single-wide trailer. The mom and boyfriend lived in the trailer, while the child and Edwards slept in an adjacent camper that had no running water or electricity. Edwards and the child ran a power cord from the main trailer to get lights and heat.

The document says that the child told investigators that sexual assaults occurred both while living in Arkansas and in the camper.

Edwards was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on Wednesday on a charge of 1st-degree rape.
