Once Pets come into our home, they forever enter our hearts and are part of the family and part of the budget. Pets are a fun but we must realize it comes with a big long term personal commitment along with a financial commitment. Owning Pets are a big decision and should be taken seriously.
How much of a budget should we have for our Pets?
We recommend that your budget a minimum of $300 per year for pets. If you save $25 per month for pet care then you will have the money needed for their yearly checkups to get shots, heartworm pills and flea & tick medicine.
What other things do we need to budget for our Pets?
Don't forget about grooming. Some dog's need haircuts every month just like we do and we need to be sure we include that in our household budget. Also be sure to include the dog's food in your food budget because we usually buy it anyway.
How can having a pet benefit us?
Statistically speaking pets will help lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, and will help you reduce loneliness and depression. Pets can also increase opportunities for regular exercise, outdoor activities and socialization. Just be sure you can afford to take on the responsibility of owning a pet.
