MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The mission of the Pet Assistance Welfare Society is to reduce and aid the population of unwanted and lost companion animals in our community and to support and encourage the positive interaction between pets and people.
PAWS is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in May 2003 to help the communities in the Northeast Louisiana area. They have created several programs to help accomplish our mission which includes our Animal Shelter Rescue, Humane Education, Spay/Neuter Assistance Program.
Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter
Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter is a governmental agency under the Ouachita Parish Police Jury. The agency is responsible for protecting the public safety and health as associated with domestic and wild animals. O.P.A.S. accepts strays and owner turn-ins.
Their website is updated several times a week, and the pets listed on the site are a mere fraction of the animals that are at the shelter. Over 100 or more animals are sheltered at any given time so you can visit their shelter to see all of the adoptable animals or to see if we have your lost pet!!
Dogs/Puppies: $70.00 - Fee includes 7-in-1 vaccination and deworming (given before adoption), rabies vaccination (given by your vet at the time of spay/neuter surgery) and a certificate to have your dog spayed or neutered after adoption.
Cats/Kittens: $60.00 - Fee includes 4-in-1 vaccination and deworming (given before adoption), rabies vaccination (given by your vet at the time of spay/neuter surgery) and a certificate to have your cat spayed or neutered after adoption.
