4 arrested for dog fighting in Louisiana town

LABADIEVILLE, La. (WAFB) - Four people are behind bars on multiple dog fighting charges.

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon says on Wednesday, April 3, K-9 and patrols units responded to an address on La. 1017 in Labadieville in connection with several people conducting dog fighting activites. As deputies approached, suspects fled in different directions.

Three people were taken into custody and identified as Wilfred Mitchell, 18, Jalil Watkins, 21, and Royal Johnson, Sr., 38.

On Wednesday, April 17, detectives also arrested Calvin Johnson, 26.

All four were booked into the Assumption Detention Center on charges of dog fighting.

Deputies took possession of two pit bulls that were being used for fighting and turned the dogs over to a local animal acitivists' organization for care and treatment.

Deputies say Calvin Johnson was incarcerated in lieu of $20,000 bond. Royal Johnson’s bond is set at $50,000. Mitchell and Watkins posted bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
