3D Mammography: Catching breast cancer in its early stages

DELHI, La. (KNOE 8 News) - One out of eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. While women with a family history of breast cancer are more likely to get breast cancer in their lifetime, more women who are low risk are also becoming diagnosed.

The facts are shocking, but Gwyn Ogden says early detection is improving with the help of modern technology.

"We have 3D Mammography here at Delhi Hospital," says Ogden. "3D Mammography has a 40% chance of not being called back in for a second look."

Ogden says Delhi Hospital is the first in the region to offer 3D Mammograms and says they feel blessed to offer this "life-saving" technology to Northeast Louisiana.

For women who want to get a 3D Mammogram, Ogden says it's very simple.

"All they have to do is have an order from their doctor," says Ogden. "After they have an order, simply call to schedule an appointment."

Ogden says on the day of your appointment, patients check in at admissions and the doctor will have their results the following day.

Ogden says most insurance companies will pay for patients to get a 3D Mammogram, which means there's no cost involved. However, women without insurance still have options.

"We are proud to be a Susan G. Komen grantee this year with our Project Pink Program," says Whitney Hutto, communications and outreach coordinator. "This allows us to give women without insurance or women that don't have enough insurance a 3D Mammogram at no cost."

Call Delhi Hospital at 318-878-6306 to get scheduled for your 3D Mammogram.
