18-wheeler rolls backward into ravine, killing driver

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP/KSLA) - Louisiana State Police say a tractor-trailer driver died when his big rig slid backward into a ravine at an oilfield.

Trooper Glen Younger says in a news release that the wreck killed 43-year-old Antorian Devol Johnson of Bossier City.

Younger says Johnson was driving a 2009 Freightliner. It stalled on an uphill grade and began rolling downhill about 2 a.m. Thursday on a private road about 28 miles (45 kilometers) southeast of Shreveport.

Younger says Johnson hit the brakes, but the truck slid into the ravine and rolled over.

Johnson was wearing a seat belt but sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The Red River Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead on scene.

Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash, though toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.

This is an ongoing investigation.
