While the stay-at-home order is over and Phase 1 continues, officials want people to remember it's not a free-for-all.
"It's very very critical that we continue on the same path that we're on and not have a spike or a surge in those numbers," said Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley.
As of Friday, May 22, Ouachita Parish has 1,041 positive cases. Smiley said it's important the number doesn't spike moving forward.
"If we have a surge of COVID-19 cases it could really cause problems for us as far as our hospital stays go and having the capacity for people that are testing positive and need hospitalization," he said.
Smiley also urges everyone to continue practicing social distancing and good hygiene.
"I just plead with everyone to be very conscious of where they are with the number of people they're around and please use hand sanitizer as often as possible," he said.
