Sofia is an award-winning investigative journalist for KNOE 8 News.

Sofia moved to the ArkLaMiss in 2019 after working as a bilingual journalist in Florida and Washington, D.C. During her time in the sunshine state, she was the recipient of several regional and national awards, including Associated Press, SPJ, PRNDI, and Edward R. Murrow awards.

Sofia has a passion for innovative storytelling. She fell in love with investigative journalism after working on special projects about the poor quality of life Florida felons face after incarceration and the toll natural disasters take on children's mental health. She looks to combine her passions to tell compelling stories about underrepresented communities around the world.

Some highlights of Sofia's work include taking a national and international look at gun violence from Columbine to Canada to Parkland, covering Hurricane Michael's landfall in the Florida Panhandle from ground zero, and working with international sources, including Puerto Rico's first lady, during the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Sofia was born in Chile and raised in sunny Tampa, Fla. She is a graduate of the University of Florida. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exploring new cities, and playing with her dog Otis.
