Kristen Payne is a reporter for KNOE 8 News.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, she is excited to start her reporting career and learn about a new area of Louisiana. Kristen graduated from LSU with a degree in Mass Communication in May of 2020. Her interest in journalism began when she took a tv production class in high school and helped live-stream her high school sports games. Kristen found a love for storytelling from watching Tom Rinaldi's pieces on ESPN College Gameday.
At LSU, she was accepted into the Manship School of Mass Communication. Kristen gained experience through interning with our sister station WAFB, the Mobile BayBears and LSU Sports Productions. She was able to cover SEC and SWAC Media Days, the Manning Passing Academy, LSU athletics, Saints football and local high school teams.
She is a lifelong LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints fan and enjoys watching sports with family and friends. Her all-time favorite sports memory is attending the 2020 CFP National Championship game in New Orleans to watch the Tigers win it all her senior year of college. She also was able to work as a production runner for ESPN the days leading up to the big game.
In college, Kristen was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, worked at LSU's student media station Tiger TV and was a tour guide for LSU Residential Life.
Kristen enjoys traveling, trying new things, watching sports, attending musicals and spending time with her loved ones.
She looks forward to meeting and learning from people in the NELA community. If you have any story ideas, please reach out.
