MONROE, La. (KNOE) -The Living Well Foundation hosted a community event at the West Monroe Convention Center to highlight its impact across Northeast Louisiana and encourage further collaboration among nonprofits, leaders, and residents.

The foundation has awarded over $545,000 to dental clinics and programs this year alone. But its reach goes far beyond oral health. Since its founding in 2006, Living Well has served eight parishes, supporting school health programs, dementia and Alzheimer’s care, and educational initiatives.

Alice Prophit, President & CEO of the Living Well Foundation, emphasized the importance of nonprofit work in her remarks.

“The people here today are showing that the work nonprofits do is important,” Prophit said. “Their involvement matters, and hearing the voices of those who are not always heard is important too.”

Prophit also stressed the need for continued support.

“All that good work is important because if they’re not funded and supported, we lose vital services that the government or others may not provide,” she said.

To date, the foundation has given over $1 million in health-related grants. Prophit said the event was about encouraging those who already help others—and inspiring them to do even more.

“We want to find ways to put our resources to work in meaningful and impactful places,” she added.

The foundation has helped open 16 school-based health centers so far, with plans to expand further in the coming years.
