This Day in History: Ships carrying 156 Acadians arrive in New Orleans on July 29, 1785

Spain sent seven ships to France to relocate Acadian families from France to Spanish-held Louisiana in 1785.

The first of those ships arrived in New Orleans on July 29, 1785. Records show the 156 Acadians on Board Le Bon Papa settled around St. Gabriel and Bayou Lafourche.
